At Gold Recruitment we take pride in our professional ability to match the right
candidate with the right client.
A resume can reveal a lot about a candidate. Sometimes, employers may be in a hurry
to select a candidate so that a particular vacancy gets filled at the earliest.
However, this may also lead them to select a candidate just by reading the first
few lines of the resume. Not surprisingly, many candidates often hand in colourful
resumes with plenty of highlights and other designs so that their resume stands
out. It is wrong to select candidates based on how their resume looks and this could
lead to an overlook of a candidate who ideally suits the job best.
The best way to understand what a resume tells you is by scanning it thoroughly.
If you have the time, it makes sense to study the resume in depth so that you know
everything about the candidate. This will help you frame the right questions during
the interview as well. However, if you have just a few minutes before you begin
the interview, then here are a few tips on how to shortlist the right candidates-
- Identify the educational qualifications and work experience of the candidate.
- Check if the candidate’s overall credentials are appropriate for the applied job.
Is the candidate over qualified or under qualified for the job vacancy?
- Analyse the writing style, grammar and spelling used in the resume. That alone will
give you an idea about the language fluency of the candidate.
- Note if the candidate has listed any references which can be checked or if there
are any other points which can affect the suitability of the candidate for the job.
